Intravenous Iron Infusions

At Parkmore Medical Centre, we are delighted to extend our services to include intravenous iron infusions for individuals experiencing iron deficiency who may not tolerate or respond well to oral iron replacement.

Iron is a vital element to produce healthy red blood cells, crucial for oxygen transportation and the maintenance of overall bodily functions. Symptoms of iron deficiency may include fatigue, weakness, dizziness, brittle nails, and pallor.

Iron deficiency can be linked to various factors such as a vegetarian diet, heavy menstrual periods, intestinal blood loss, pregnancy, and certain chronic diseases.

To initiate the process, an initial consultation with one of our experienced General Practitioners is necessary to assess your suitability for an iron infusion. Please schedule an appointment for this consultation.

Upon determination of suitability, a subsequent appointment will be arranged for the infusion procedure.

On the day of your infusion, we advise you to stay hydrated, maintain your regular diet, and wear a comfortable t-shirt to facilitate access to both arms.

It is essential for patients to obtain the iron vial from a pharmacy prior to their appointment and bring it along.

The infusion will be administered via an IV cannula inserted into your arm, which will be removed upon completion of the procedure.

Please allocate approximately 45 minutes for the appointment.

We look forward to assisting you on your journey to improved health and well-being.
